India 2013 by Bicycle

Just returned yesterday to Brighton from 5 weeks cycling along the coast of Kerala in Southern India. It was just me and Christine, our trusty Thorn Bicycles and my brilliant Panasonic Lumix GH2.

An amazing journey, outrageously hot and humid and fabulously friendly people. Here are just a few shots to give you a taste.

Now back to lots of new photo commissions, studio portraits and some really exciting times ahead.

France Cycling RnR

I decided to to take a break from being a photographer and so just spent the best part of June cycling through France with Christine, from the north coast at St Malo to Bergerac in the Dordogne – about 1200km of eating Goat’s cheese, bread and flies, and camping by rivers. Countless mosquito bites, coffees and beautiful countryside. It was fab to be away in the fresh air without always looking at my watch and rushing around, and getting some serious miles in my legs…..

Hey! And the French were lovely even though my French is more School-Infant than School-Boy.

I took my excellent little Lumix GH2 with the 14mm and 20 mm lenses – nice and light and great quality.

Now back in Brighton to tons of photography work the next couple of months with some great portraits, headshot work and commercial jobs booked in. Already my tan is fading!

Berlin – Photography

Just had a great week in one of my favourite cities, Berlin, which was in the throngs of a superb heatwave. My visit coincided with Mayday – and the famous Kreuzberg ‘anti-everything/smash the system Demo’ – hardcore! Berlin’s such a vibrant, full-on place and as a photographer from little-old Brighton I always love just wandering the streets, snapping away.

The first photo is of the start of the Kreuzberg Demo

Morning Walk in Sussex

Some of the countryside close to Brighton is really beautiful and full of old interesting stuff. Packed a couple of cheese sandwiches and a banana I went with Christine for a walk this morning and took these shots literally 200 metres from the edge of Brighton. The little Lumix GF1 and 20mm lens does the job pretty well.

Retro Brighton in the Sun

Another glorious day in Brighton. After finishing some editing I decided to hit the seafront on my retro 80s road bike and then couldn’t resist snapping the Brighton Wheel from the pier. Can’t wait to post about my big photography job this week but have to wait for the magazine to be published first….

Retouching of Headshots, Brighton

These days any decent professional photographer must also be a pretty good whizz using Photoshop.

Photographed this model on location but once I got back to the studio and threw the image onto the imac I realised that I needed to do a little retouching. His skin wasn’t quite as perfect as it could have been (the gentle March sun possibly fooling my eye) and I noticed he had a couple of small scars and two tiny marks on his neck (damn my high-resolution cameras).

Here is the before and after.

After some simple retouching

Palace Pier, Brighton 001

Aint’t Brighton ace when the sun shines! People smiling, children laughing, professional photographers eating fish n’ chips, dogs peeing on enormous fibreglass ice-creams, teenagers practicing skateboard skills, tourists feeding seagulls while taking iphoto photos, giant inflatable slides, tea in polystyrene cups, packs of three Custard Creams, squinting in the sun, carrying your jacket and scarf and hat – and feeling so so good……

More Brighton Street Art

A few more of these superb and funky ‘redecorated’ graffit BT telephone boxes around Brighton. I photographed these this morning on my way to the shops – cooking a huge curry blow-out for some friends tonight!

Used the brilliant Panasonic GF1 and tiny tiny 25 f1.7 lens
